List of exchange trading instruments
Shares
Shares are the units of the ownership of a company, usually traded on the stock market. They are also known as stocks, or equities.
The total number of outstanding shares in a company is equal to its value on the market, or its market cap.
Option
An option is a derivative, a contract that gives the buyer the right, but not the obligation, to buy or sell the underlying asset by a certain date (expiration date) at a specified price (strike price). There are two types of options: calls and puts. American-style options can be exercised at any time prior to their expiration. European-style options can only be exercised on the expiration date.
Futures
Futures represent an agreement to buy or sell a specific quantity of a stock, security, or commodity at a set price on a specified date in the future. Short for "futures contracts," these agreements are legally binding and must be fulfilled either by physical delivery or cash settlement.
Exchange-Traded Fund (ETF)
An Exchange-Traded Fund (ETF) is an investment fund that holds assets such as stocks, commodities, bonds, or foreign currency. An ETF is traded like a stock throughout the trading day at fluctuating prices. They often track indexes, such as the Nasdaq, the S&P 500, the Dow Jones, and the Russell 2000.
Analytical methods
Fundamental analysis
Fundamental analysis is an independent method for evaluating securities and issuing companies. During fundamental analysis, an investor studies the financial and accounting statements of a company and tries to find the fair value of its securities. If the fair value is below the current market price, it is unprofitable to buy securities because investors overvalue them. And vice versa: if the fair value is higher than the current price, it is profitable to buy securities because they are undervalued.
The value of a company and its securities is influenced by many factors, for example, the political and economic situation in the country, the activities of competitors, the financial condition of the company. Fundamental investors believe that the share price of successful companies rises, while that of unprofitable ones falls.
Technical analysis
Technical analysis is used to make trading decisions based on past price (or volume) changes. Its tools can be: levels, candlestick patterns, chart patterns, indicators, trends. Technical analysis will not make you a profitable trader. You will still need good risk management, discipline, and a working trading strategy. Technical analysis is the analysis of a trading instrument on a chart in an attempt to find price patterns and patterns that can provide clues for the future direction of price. Technical analysis relies on historical data that is taken into account when determining potential support and resistance levels. It is generally accepted that if price bounces off a certain level or pivot point, price is likely to take that level into account in the future.
Alternative data analysis
Alternative data is a term used to describe anything beyond traditional financial data that can be used to provide unique insights into a company's performance and performance trends. Investors are increasingly looking for such data as a valuable source of timely information to aid in investment decisions. Alternative data gives traders an informational edge over the market. This creates opportunities for alpha or excess return on investment compared to a market index or other benchmark. Combined with advances in big data over the past decade, investor drive for alpha has led to explosive growth in demand for alternative data sources. At the same time, new data brokers and other intermediaries have emerged to provide alternative data cleansing and interpretation services.
